In my 20’s I thought I was indestructible. Being of African decent empowered those thoughts even further. *wink-wink*
I have so much to say about using time well but I’ll explore that in other posts.
I really didn’t have an external skincare routine in my 20’s. I was a soap and water girl until my late 30’s.
I was however, an internal skincare girl and let me tell you what I mean by that.
When it comes to having skin that glows, it begins with what you let slide between your lips and into your cells.
In my 20’s, I was a sports nutritionist. I found great joy in eating in a way that fueled my cells and gave me the body I wanted to see staring back at me in the mirror.
Internal skin care is step one. If you don’t nail step one it won’t really matter how many lotions, potions, cover-ups and creams you slather on your largest organ aka your skin.
You want to look good and feel good without the makeup too, right?
Here are some foods and supplements I took in my 20’s in order to maintain healthy skin and a glow that stayed around till my late 30’s even though during my 30’s I faltered on the diet and I’m paying the price, but more on that later.
*note-I am not a doctor or a certified nutritionist anymore-I am holistic health coach though but always check with your doctor or naturopath before taking any advice including mine*
Rule 1-Sleep. In my 20’s I was religious about getting in my zzz’s. I went to bed about 9pm and I was up about 5am just about every morning. My body thanked me for treating it so well.
Rule 2-Water. I drank half my body weight in water everyday. I also drank tons of herbal teas without sugar. I’m most certain this also increased my cellular happiness.
Rule 3-Sugar. I have a sweet tooth ta-boot. I kept it tamed. I enjoyed fat, sugary desserts usually only once a week. This helped me keep the cells in check, the weight in check and allowed me to practice moderation.
Rule 4-Green foods. I ate vegetables at about every meal. Nowadays people are snacking on nuts, excessive amounts of fruits, rice cakes and protein bars. I snacked on bowls of green beans, broccoli and the like.
Rule 5-Vitamins. I’m a herbal junky. I love using the natural ingredients that God so generously placed in the earth to cure ailments and fill nutritional gaps. Don’t get me wrong. Pharmaceuticals are necessary and save lives but first I go natural. Some of the Nutriceuticals I focused on were a daily multivitamin, fish oil (dha supplements), probiotics, liquid vitamin C and PMS support.
I now use a multi-therapy regimen in conjunction with many of the things above.
What is your current skincare routine? Is it working well? Are you satisfied? I love hearing from you!
